Hiring a Head Loan Officer

The Head Loan Officer will be tasked with closing at least 250 loans during the year of his or her service, while also maintaining a high repayment rate.  Accomplishing this will require an ability to become deeply embedded in the communities that CGF serves.
Additionally, the Head Loan Officer is expected to provide detailed, high-quality feedback to other staff on how to a) improve efficiency, b) refine existing loan products, c) develop new products and d) build up the necessary infrastructure for achieving scale.  In other words, the Head Loan officer forms an integral part of the CGF team and acts as a bridge between the clients we serve and the infrastructure we are developing to serve them.  He or she must be comfortable working in the lowest-income neighborhoods in Rhode Island, while also possessing the ability to think about systems, processes and scale.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

-    Handle all inquiries about loans
-    Meet with loan applicants
-    Process loan applications
-    Convey loan decisions to applicants
-    Follow up with clients
-    Market CGF loans in order to attract more clients
-    Refine loan products
-    Conduct financial coaching in Spanish
-   Manage Spanish-speaking student-Fellows


Required Skills

The Head Loan Officer for The Capital Good Fund MUST be fluent in Spanish.  He or she must also:
-       Possess excellent communication skills
-       Be able to empathize with people of different backgrounds
-       Be able to assess the viability of a potential business/likelihood that a borrower will repay
-       Thrive in a start-up environment and learn quickly
-       Be extremely outgoing, passionate about ending poverty, eager to work hard and change lives, etc.

Preferred Skills
-       Experience in financial services
-       An understanding of credit scores/histories
-       Background in economics or business
-       Experience working in low-income/distressed communities
-         Have a Bachelor’s degree


Training and Compensation.
The Creative Officer will receive extensive training on all of CGF’s systems and loans. Additionally, the Loan Officer will be trained, as needed, on how to read a credit report, evaluate a business plan, etc.  Lastly, the Head Loan Officer will shadow a current Loan Officer until he or she is comfortable in the role.
